POLICE are trying to trace a knifeman in connection with the serious sexual assault of a young Coventry woman.

Police believe the attacker was loitering on the canal towpath off Drapers Fields, near the canal basin, as the victim, aged 20, walked home at about 10.20pm on Thursday, October 18.

The attacker leapt out in front of her and threatened her with a knife before subjecting her to a serious sexual assault.

At some point during the attack he became distracted and ran off.

The victim immediately contacted the police.

Detective Constable Toni Rossi, of Little Park Street police station, urged anyone with information to contact West Midlands Police.

He said: “This is an e-fit of the offender described by the victim.

“We are appealing for witnesses to the attack and anyone who knows the identity of the man in the picture to come forward. It is a serious and nasty offence and we believe it is isolated.

“The victim is now safe and well.”

The attacker is described as black, in his late teens to early 20s, about 5ft 10in and of medium build.

He was wearing a dark hooded top, with the hood up over a baseball cap, and dark trousers.

Anyone with information about the attack or who recognises the man in the e-fit picture is asked

to call the CID at Little Park Street police station on 0845 113 5000 or Crimestoppers – the free and anonymous hotline – on 0800 555 111.
