A woman shopper fought off a mugger on a bicycle by hitting him with her shopping bag as he tried to swipe her handbag.

The 29-year-old was walking along Chiswick High Road on her way home from Sainsbury’s, on Thursday, October 25 at around 6pm, when she noticed three youths lurking on mountain bikes.

Just after turning into Homefield Road, two of them passed her and cycled ahead of on the pavement. The third grabbed her handbag from behind.


She tightened her grip and hit him with her shopping bag which was in her other hand. She was pulled to the floor and then dragged along the ground, but screamed and kept hold of her bag.

The men, who fled along Homefield Road, were described as black, aged around 18 and wearing dark hooded jumpers.

One of the bikes was silver.
