Police in Chorley are appealing for witnesses to come forward after two women were sexually assaulted in the early hours of New Year’s Day morning.

The first incident happened at approx 01.30hrs on the Flat Iron Car Park, Market Walk, Chorley when a female was walking alone.  The male offender pushed the aggrieved to the ground before trying to put his hands on her.  The aggrieved has managed to elbow the offender and scream out and the offender has then made from the scene.

The second incident happened at approx 2.15hrs when a lone female was approached by a male who has grabbed her arm and dragged her down a ginnel which was behind the Horse Bit Shop on Steely Lane.  The offender forced the girl to the floor making obscene comments to her.  The female has managed to hit the offender with her bag and kick out at him and he has fled the scene.

On both occasions the offender is described as an Asian male about 20 – 30 years old, average build with stubble or a goatee beard and a full head of hair.  He was wearing dark clothing – a dark tracksuit top with white piping at the top and dark bottoms.

DS Graham Coates commented, “  Both women were very shaken up by the attacks but fortunately were not seriously injured.  A lot of people would have been out and about in the early hours of New Year’s Day morning and I would appeal to anyone that was in either of the areas where the attacks happened and saw anything suspicious to contact us.

I would also emphasise to females the importance of considering there personal safety when they are out and about at night, not walking on their own and pre-booking transport home.  Fortunately these incidents do not happen very often but personal safety should always be a top priority.”
