POLICE are appealing for witnesses to a sexual assault in Nelson in which a teenage girl was groped in broad daylight.
It happened around 11-45 a.m. on Tuesday, January 15th, as the girl was walking towards Nelson and Colne College.

As she approached the junction of Fleet Street and Scotland Road the youth, who had been following her for 20 minutes, approached her. Having already repeatedly asked for her mobile number and stated he “was going to kiss her“, the youth ran his hand around the victim’s body and made attempts to run his hand up her skirt.

DC Simon Robinson said: “Fortunately. the opportunity to run off before the attack could escalate presented itself, leaving the young girl distressed about the incident, but nothing more. This kind of incident is rare and we are treating this seriously.”

The victim left the youth standing in the street as she ran off and spoke with a passing local lady.
DC Robinson said: “The attacker is described as an Asian male, aged between 16-18 years, 5 ft 5in. tall and of slim build. He had short dark hair and had a lazy left eye which was slightly bloodshot. At the time of the attack, he was wearing a dark zip-up waist-length jacket, blue jeans and light coloured trainers. He spoke with an East Lancashire Asian accent.

“We are keen for anyone who may have witnessed this incident, or who may be able to identify this youth, or has any information, no matter how insignificant you may think it is, to come forward and contact myself, DC Robinson, at Nelson CID on 472651 or, alternatively, Crimestoppers on freephone 0800 555111.”
