Police are hunting a man who sexually assaulted a woman in front of her three-year-old daughter in Manchester.

The 22-year-old mother ran after her daughter who had gone into an alleyway in Wythenshawe at 8pm on Sunday.

She was immediately grabbed from behind and forced to the ground, before being sexually assaulted.

Police believe her attacker was disturbed and he ran off with her handbag.

He was a black man, 20-30 years-old, about 6ft and wearing dark clothing.

The attack happened near Greenbrow Road in Newall Green, Wythenshawe.

Detective Constable Neil Jones of Greater Manchester Police said: “The victim in this case is obviously traumatised, and we are treating this incident very seriously.

“We are greatly concerned that the attacker has continued despite a young child being present.

“We are hoping that this appeal will trigger people’s memory about the night in question, and somebody might have seen a man they felt was acting suspiciously in the area and call us.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police in Wythenshawe on 0161 856 4845 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
