POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a 12-year-old girl was the victim of an attempted rape outside the Trafford Centre.

The girl was dragged to the back of Frankie and Benny’s restaurant after leaving the Trafford Centre’s cinema complex at about 7pm on Saturday, February 24.

It is believed that the offender followed the girl and her friend out of the arcade and onto the car park.

The offender is believed to have been with a group of young men when he left to follow the victim, who he grabbed and dragged to the back of Frankie and Benny’s.

He attempted to rape the girl in a wooded area but she managed to wriggle free and raise the alarm.

She was deeply upset by the incident. She is being interviewed by officers today and officers have been to the scene to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Detective sergeant Ben Ewart, of Trafford Public Protection Unit, said: “We don’t want to cause any alarm or panic, but we do feel the public need to be made aware of this incident.

“Thankfully the victim managed to escape from her attacker and she has been extremely brave in giving us a full description of what happened and what her attacker looked like.”

The offender is described as Asian, between 14 and 15-years-old, around 5ft 1in tall, medium build, with short dark spikey hair and wearing a black-hooded jacket, black tracksuit bottoms and black trainers.
