DETECTIVES have launched a rape investigation after a woman reported being attacked in her home last night.

At about 9.25pm on Monday, February 25 the victim had just arrived at her home in Crete Street, Oldham, when someone knocked on her door.

She went to open it and a man was standing there. He tried to engage her in conversation and asked if he could come in. But when she said no he forced his way into the house, into her front room, threatened her and raped her.

After he had gone the victim called her friend, who called police at about 10.30pm.

Detective Inspector Chris Bridge said: “Thankfully this kind of incident is rare, but that fact unfortunately won’t change anything for this woman, who is totally traumatised. This was a shocking attack, and we are determined to catch the person responsible.

“I would appeal to anyone in the community who thinks they could have any information about this incident to come forward and help us.”

The victim described her attacker as an Asian man aged about 30 of medium build and height. He had short black hair, dark eyes and was unshaven. He was wearing sports clothing at the time.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 0161 856 8952 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
