Police hunting an escaped mental patient have revealed the man is a dangerous sex offender.

A city wide alert was issued after 27-year-old black man Owen Rose jumped from a vehicle taking him to a secure unit in Camberwell on Friday.

The public have been warned not to approach Rose – cops had kept his convictions for attempted rape and sexual assault secret until yesterday evening. Rose was last spotted around 3pm on Thursday in Denmark Hill.

Do not approach – call 999

A police spokesman said:

“He should not be approached by members of the public. If anyone sees him, they should call police on 999.”

Rose is described as black, Afro-Caribbean, 6ft tall, and of heavy build.

He has a shaven head with stubble and a light beard and small moustache.

He was last seen wearing blue jeans and a red and white t-shirt with red squares and is known to have strong links to the Croydon area with other links in Lambeth and Catford.

Anyone with further information should contact Croydon Police on 020 8649 0090.
Second escapee in a week

It is the second such alert cops have issued in a week. Last Monday a convict escaped from a secure mental health unit in Southall.

Police are still searching for Ahmed Mohammed, 25, who was sentenced in 2002 to a hospital order for two indecent assaults against lone females.

Mohammed, who is described as a 6ft, black Somalian, is known to have links to the Wandsworth area, and should not be approached.
