A robber who kicked and punched a jogger during a street mugging has been jailed for three-and-a-half years.

Ali Jama Ali (22) forced the victim to the ground in Prebend Street, Highfields, Leicester, during an early morning run.

Ali was joined by an accomplice, who has since jumped bail and is on the run.

Stephen Kemp, prosecuting, said they demanded the jogger’s iPod. He said: “The victim was kicked a number of times on his body and head.

“Once it had ended, Ali gratuitously kicked him before leaving.”

The mugging was caught on CCTV and the camera operator tracked them to the railway station, where they were arrested. The iPod was recovered from Ali’s accomplice.
