Police are visiting schools to reassure pupils after a nine-year-old girl was sexually assaulted in Lincoln.

The girl was approached at 07:55 BST on Friday after her mother briefly left her at the junction of Manby Street and Newark Road, Lincolnshire Police said.

She described the man as white, in his early 20s, between 5ft 6in and 5ft 9in tall, and speaking with a foreign accent.

The girl said he had stubble and was wearing a dark leather jacket.

Insp Shaun Baxter, of Lincolnshire Police, said: “[The girl] was waiting on the corner for a school bus. Her mother had just popped off into another address to drop some stuff off and was coming back.

“The man gradually approached her about three times over the space of 10 minutes and got braver and braver. And this has been in the public view so this is a more worrying thing.
