A woman was found dead yesterday in a pool of blood in an underpass.

It is thought she was bludgeoned in the back of the head and had her throat cut after being ambushed from behind as she made her way home from a night out.

The pedestrian underpass where she was found runs beneath a dual carriageway in the commuter-belt town of Bracknell, Berkshire. A cyclist made the grim discovery at 8am.

The battered body of the 43-year-old woman was lying next to a half-empty wine bottle. She lives locally, but has not yet been formally identified.
