A MOTORIST who knocked down and killed a cyclist before driving away after he was sworn at by the dying man’s friend has been jailed for nine months.

Anjum Zeeshan, 35, of Eden Grove Road, Byfleet, was sentenced at Guildford Crown Court on Wednesday (May 30) after a jury convicted him of causing death by careless driving.

The victim, 58-year-old John Austin, died at the side of Parvis Road, West Byfleet, on the evening of May 22 last year.

Mr Austin had been riding home following a meeting in Byfleet when he was struck from behind by Zeeshan’s people carrier.

Jailing the defendant, Judge Christopher Critchlow said: “This was a criminal piece of driving”
