A taxi driver accused of touching up a passenger and locking her in his car was tried in his absence after a jury heard he had returned to his native Iran.

Farman Abdullah, 25, denied sexually assaulting a female passenger in his Cam Cab car at a hearing in April, but left the UK before his trial started in his absence at Cambridge Crown Court on Monday.

Abdullah, previously of Franks Lane, Cambridge, was alleged to have touched the passenger in the early hours of November 26, two days after he started working for the firm.
