A HUSBAND who attacked his wife days after she gave birth has been locked up for 16 months.

Shafaq Hussain used mother-of-four Zahida Parveen as a punchbag, slapping, kicking and punching her and pulling her hair while he was drunk, Sheffield Crown Court heard.

In a victim impact statement, his wife said: “He kicked me in the stomach with a lot of force. I felt like I was dying, it was so painful.”

Hussain, of Goddard Hall Road, Fir Vale, Sheffield, admitted assault causing actual bodily harm by kicking and punching his wife, but denied kicking her in the stomach.

Jailing the 35-year-old, Recorder David Hatton told him: “It was a vicious, sustained, bad-tempered and drunken attack in the presence of your eight-year-old son who attempted to intervene to stop it.”
