An Afghan national who was caught taking part in a sham marriage to a Czech woman at Leeds Registry Office is facing deportation.

Matiullah Khan, 45, was arrested by chiefs from UK Border Agency during the fake ceremony to Tatiana Sivakova on June 26 last year.

Khan was jailed for 18 months at Leeds Crown Court after being convicted of conspiracy to breach immigration laws following a trial at the same court earlier this year.

Mohammed Ayub, 35, of John Street, Wakefield, was also convicted of the same offence after he acted as Khan’s best man during the ceremony in Leeds city centre.
