Thames Valley Police is appealing for witnesses after a man was injured in Oxford during the early hours of this morning (19/8).

Police were called at 1.13am, after reports that a 45-year-old man had been assaulted during an altercation on Magdalen Bridge.

The man, who was walking with a friend towards Cowley at the time, sustained a serious head injury and was taken to John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, where he remains in a serious but stable condition this evening.

The assailant is described as an African Caribbean black man, believed to be in his thirties, between 5ft 9ins and 6ft 2ins tall. He has shoulder-length black dreadlocks, which were braids rather than looser style dreadlocks, with one red braid in his hair by his ear. The bottom of the braids were not beaded, and they were swept backwards. He was wearing dark clothes, including dark trousers and a dark short-sleeved collared shirt.
