AN ILLEGAL Vietnamese immigrant who tended a near £300,000-a-year cannabis farm has been jailed.

Nam Vo had been in the United Kingdom for two months when the Norcliffe Street terraced house in North Ormesby, Middlesbrough, he was looking after was raided by police.

Teesside Crown Court heard that officers searched the property on Monday, June 18, at about 11.30am.

Prosecutor Harry Hadfield said the 19-year-old defendant tried to escape through the back door but was detained.

Mr Hadfield said four rooms in the house were used to produce cannabis and 207 plants were recovered.
