AN INNOCENT bystander had to undergo a five hour operation to hold his skull together after being struck by glass in a Birmingham pub.

The 31-year-old victim had been in The Victoria on John Bright Street on the evening of 3 August, just days before his birthday, when it happened.

A glass was thrown at around 11:30pm which hit him on the cheek bone, causing stomach churning injuries.

He had to undergo major surgery, including the insertion of four titanium plates into his head and over 60 staples to his face.

Separate micro-stitches had to be used on the victim’s eye socket following extensive damage caused by the impact of the glass.
