A former asylum seeker has been jailed for ten years – and could be deported – after ‘brutally’ raping a teenage girl in Sneinton.
Sudan-born Mawawe Karam, 28, lured the 17-year-old into an alleyway after she had been on a night out with a friend in Nottingham City centre in March.
He admitted rape and theft of her mobile phone at Nottingham Crown Court and was jailed for a total of ten years today.
Karam had previously appeared at the court on Wednesday, when he exposed his genitals while standing in the dock. The judge responded by sending him down to the cells.
Nottingham Crown Court heard today that the girl had been put in a taxi home by her friend, but had somehow ended up alone in the Sneinton Market area.
CCTV from the scene showed Karam steering the girl along the street into an alleyway where he ripped off her clothing and raped her.
