AN attacker who thrust a glass into a man’s throat when trouble erupted in a bar, has been jailed for six-and-a-half years.
Ali Ahmad, 37, caused a serious wound to Simon Hewison’s neck, which required emergency surgery.
Mr Hewison, who had been at Ttonic bar in Sunderland city centre during a night out with friends in February, will be scarred for the rest of his life.
Newcastle Crown Court yesterday heard Mr Hewison was already on the ground after violence broke out in the pub when Ahmad attacked him.
The court heard he kicked him twice to the face, then used his glass to inflict the horrific wound.
Mr Recorder Simon Hirst told Ahmad: “You pulled your arm back, changed the grip on your glass and forced the glass into Mr Hewison’s throat while he was on the floor.
