A 35-year-old man who had sex with a 13-year-old girl after his marriage broke down has been jailed for 12 months.

Mohammed Khan, of Walden Drive, Heaton, Bradford, told police he picked up the teenager in Manningham Lane because she was scantily dressed and looked cold.

He was convicted by a jury last month of sexual activity with a child in January 2008.

During the trial, the court heard the girl was reported missing and revealed what had happened to her when questioned by police officers.

Today the sentencing judge Recorder David Hatton QC said Khan, of previous good character, fell for the temptation that came his way.

“She, to a significant degree, made advances to you. She is undoubtedly a young girl who is strong minded and has more knowledge of the world than one would normally expect for a young girl of that age,” the judge said.

Recorder Hatton said the girl was a disturbed young woman with a number of issues.

Khan, now divorced, was separated from his wife at the time and vulnerable to “fall foul of the temptation presented to him”.

He must sign on the Sex Offenders’ Register for ten years and the judge made a Sexual Offences Prevention Order for the same period, stopping Khan working with youngsters under 16 unless supervised.

A 16-YEAR-OLD Crosby girl and another teenager claim to have been raped by the same man within hours of each other.

The Crosby girl and a 15-year-old did not know each other but independently reported being raped by 20-year-old Adnan Saad on August 2.

Saad, of Enid Street in Toxteth, has denied the charges.

A jury at Liverpool Crown Court yesterday, heard the 16-year-old’s recorded interview, in which she described how she had gone out to a party in Waterloo and then into Liverpool city centre.

She said they met up with some men her friend knew and went to Saad’s flat. The girl said her friend went upstairs with one of the men, while she was downstairs with Saad and another man.

She claims she was raped and then managed to leave the flat. She told her friend what had happened and the police were notified.

Cross-examined by Michael Bagley, defending, she denied that she had been drunk at the time of the incident, at about 5am, but had earlier been ‘tipsy’.

A SUCCESSFUL Dudley restaurateur has been spared time behind bars after he carried out a sex attack on a customer’s nine-year-old son.

“This was a dirty little act,” Judge Michael Mott told 26-year-old Rafiqul Islam, who runs the Balti Palace at Merry Hill.

“When families take their children out to a restaurant they do not expect them to be assaulted by a member of staff.”

Islam admitted sexual assault and was given a nine month prison sentence suspended for a year and also made the subject of a 12 month supervision order.

He was further ordered to pay £1,600 costs at Wolverhampton Crown Court and was barred from working with children under 18 years of age.

Gerald Bermingham prosecuting said the boy had gone to the restaurant with his father who was on a staff Christmas outing.

The child broke the zip on his trousers on a visit to the toilets and, when he returned, he sat with another boy on a sofa.

Islam then sat on the other side of the child and slipped his finger into the open zip, said Mr Bermingham.

Rashad Mohammed defending stressed the incident only lasted a second or two and he said Islam was extremely embarrassed by his actions which were deeply regretted.

He said Islam, a married man with a baby daughter, who lives in Great Arthur Street, Smethwick was a successful businessman and he also owned restaurants in Hereford and Wolverhampton.

A 27-year-old man has been jailed for sexually assaulting a teenage girl.

Mahmood Nawaz, of Newbury Road, Heald Green, Stockport, pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing before Manchester Crown Court Crown Square to inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and sexual assault.

He was sentenced yesterday to 18 months imprisonment and ordered to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for five years.

The offences occurred in September 2007, when Nawaz befriended his then 14-year-old victim at Chelford Market in Cheshire.

He swapped numbers with the victim, knowing her age and asked to meet her.

Nawaz called her later that day when she was with two of her friends, aged 14 and 15 and arranged to meet her near Macclesfield. Her friends would not let her go alone and went with her.

Nawaz suggested they go to a hotel. After failing to get a room at a hotel in Macclesfield, they all travelled to a hotel in Heald Green, where he paid for a room.

After a short while the victim went with Nawaz to a shop near to the hotel where he bought alcohol. As they left the shop he went back in and bought a packet of condoms.

They all drank in the hotel room and Nawaz left for around 40 minutes. When he came back he had changed his clothes.

As they all sat on the bed watching TV Nawaz removed a condom from the packet he had earlier bought and asked the girl if she wanted to have sex with him.

He tried to climb on top of her and kiss her. He also tried to put his hands down her jeans but she pushed him away.

The victim became scared of Nawaz and asked her friends not to leave her alone with him.

Nawaz became angry claiming he had spent a lot of money on the victim and her friends.

The victim’s friend became very concerned about what was happening and went down to the front desk and called someone to come and collect them. He also spoke to the hotel staff about what was happening.

Two members of staff went up to the room and asked them all to leave.

Nawaz drove off in his van while the victim and her two friends waited for someone to pick them up.

When they got home later that night, their parents contacted Cheshire Police to report them missing.

It was when the missing reports were finished off the girl and her friends told police what had happened.

Cheshire Police informed officers at Greater Manchester Police and Nawaz was arrested a few days later.

Detective Constable April Hopwood of West Didsbury Volume Crime Team said: “Despite knowing how old his victim was he made arrangements to meet her, plying her and her friends with alcohol in an attempt to get what he really wanted.

“Luckily, the children realised what was happening was wrong and managed to put an end to the situation.”

A FORMER youth worker has been put behind bars after being found guilty of raping an 11-year-old girl.

Dilal Uddin, 36, from Mossley, was charged with rape and seven other counts of sexual abuse, starting just weeks after the victim’s 11th birthday.

The abuse only came to light when she told a family member.

The father-of-three had always denied the offences, leading to a trial in which the youngster and her family were forced to give evidence, but was convicted by a jury in October last year.

He appeared before Manchester Crown Court last Monday and was sentenced to 11 years in jail.

He was also banned from working or volunteering with children under 16 and from having any unsupervised contact with them indefinitely.

The court heard how Uddin – a former youth worker in Manchester – had befriended the girl and showered her with money and gifts in order to ‘purchase her trust and also her silence’.

A letter from the victim was handed to the court in which she said she felt scared but was glad that she had been able to tell someone.

Passing sentence, Judge Jeffrey Lewis told Uddin he had ‘preyed’ on the girl for his own sexual gratification.

He said: “Yours was a classic case of grooming a young child so that, as and when you chose, you could exploit her sexually.

“Your sexual misconduct was a betrayal of her dignity, of her innocence, of the innocence of her childhood.

“Apart from the physical indignities of your conduct there is a risk of psychological harm having been caused as a result of your abuse of her.

“You have never admitted your misconduct, you showed no remorse for it, nor have you offered any apology.”

Speaking after the court case, the victim’s mother thanked police, social workers, the witness service and everyone who had supported the family through the court case.

“It has been horrendous, a nightmare,” she added.

“It makes you look at people in a different way – you can’t trust them, it makes you paranoid.

“No sentence will ever be long enough but I am pleased with the result.”

rapist1 A ‘PREDATOR’ who attempted to snatch a 14-year-old papergirl at knifepoint and sexually assault her has been jailed for three years.

Tahir Haddadi, 26, of Hosier Street, Blackburn, threatened the youngster with a three-inch blade and demanded that she perform a sex act on him, police said.

Haddadi, a worker at a local cash and carry depot, was convicted of sexual assault and kidnap at Preston Crown Court where he was sent to prison.

After the case, Detective Constable Lee Eckersley said Haddadi struck at around 6.30am on July 3 last year in Audley Lane, Audley.

He said that after Haddadi pounced on the girl he threatened her and tried to take her to a secluded area.

But, as he was walking with her and threatening her with a knife, she began to become very upset and started crying.

He said that as the girl began to cry Haddadi ran off and she was able to escape.

She reported the incident when she was back in the safety of her home.

DC Eckersley said: “The incident has left her absol-utely devastated.

“She is getting her confid-ence back now but she was left scared to go outside for a long period.

“This was a very serious incident and has an aggrav-ating feature because of his use of a knife.

“She was very lucky in my opinion that the incident was not a lot worse.

“Haddadi is a predator and a coward.

“He has always denied the offence but we are delighted that he has now been convicted and the victim and her family can start to put the incident behind them.”

DC Eckersley said that the incident happened as the girl completed her normal paper route.

He said: “He saw the young girl early in the morning when she was going about her paper round and formed his intentions.”

assexerTWO Asian men were jailed indefinitely for sex attacks on teenage white girls they had plied with drink and drugs.

Mirza Baig, 35, and Mohammed Ditta, 39, picked up vulnerable teenagers, offering them drink and cigarettes, Manchester Crown Court was told.

But after luring them back to Ditta’s flat in Hulme, Manchester, the girls were given vodka, Ecstasy pills and cocaine, until they became unconscious.

They then pounced on their 15-year-old victims, stripping them naked, putting them in beds and trying to force them to have sex.

Baig, of Longdon Road, Longsight, Manchester, and Ditta of Newdale Road, Levenshulme, Manchester, were jailed indefinitely for the public’s protection and told they must each serve at least three years before parole.

Passing sentence Judge Anthony Gee said: “These are despicable and truly shameful offences. Neither of you have displayed the slightest hint of remorse or regret.”

The pair were arrested in May last year after an investigation by a team of social workers from Manchester Children’s Services, detectives from Greater Manchester Police and project workers from the voluntary sector.

In the first incident, on April 18, 2007, Baig met up with two 15-year-old girls and drove them to Ditta’s flat.

Once inside Ditta gave the girls drink and drugs. He offered to pay one of the girls £20 to have sex with him, but she refused so he punched her twice in the face.

A few weeks later on April 30, 2007 the third victim, who was also 15 at the time, went to the same flat with a girl she knew.

Intoxicated

There, Ditta and Baig gave her drink and drugs. While she was heavily intoxicated, Baig then sexually assaulted her. He then trapped her in the bedroom and threatened to kill her.

Ditta also sexually assaulted her before she was able to escape.

One girl told Manchester Crown Court she was terrified and thought she was going to die after Ditta ordered her to have sex and threatened her with a gun.

Ditta was convicted of assault and sexual assault after a three week trial.

Baig was convicted of sexual assault and threats to kill after calling one girl a “slag” and saying he would shoot her if she did not have sex with him.

Both men are married with young children.

A PHARMACIST who went around Cardiff biting young boys’ legs was yesterday jailed for 18 months.

Cardiff Crown Court heard that Zaid Sheikha, 26, who came to Wales to study for a masters degree and was living in Cardiff Bay, had no explanation for his bizarre behaviour.

But over a three-day period this summer he managed to convince three separate children – two aged 12 and the other 11 – that he was a doctor and needed to examine their legs.

“He told them he was a skin specialist and could tell if they might have eczema,” said prosecutor Hywel Hughes.

“The first two victims – friends, both 12 – were going fishing in Cardiff Bay when he approached them, telling them he was Spanish and a doctor and had recently arrived in Cardiff.

“At one point he was sitting on a rock chatting about fishing when he said he thought one of the boys might have eczema starting.

“The boy pulled up the leg of his tracksuit bottoms and Sheikha massaged his leg then bit it hard, although not breaking the skin.

“He then tried to pull at the waistband of the joggers to examine him there but the boy refused.”

Mr Hughes said Sheikha then grabbed the second boy and was trying to pull him towards bushes but his friend pulled him the other way and they ran away.

The court heard that two days later, on August 25, an 11-year-old visiting a science exhibition at the Wales Millenium Centre with his parents and a friend was approached by Sheikha in an experiments room.

“Again he told them he was a doctor, examined one boy’s leg, massaged it and bit it,” said Mr Hughes.

“They ran back to the adults and the police were called.”

The following day one of the boys agreed to travel around the Bay area with the police.

He spotted Sheikha sitting in a cafe and pointed him out to the officers.

Sheikha pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting and causing actual bodily harm to each boy and in a letter to the court said he wanted to apologise to all three.

Mr Justice Field jailed him for 18 months and placed him on the sex offenders’ register for 10 years.

The judge told Sheikha: “You will carry the stigma of this with you.”

The court was told Sheikha, of Harrowby Street, Cardiff Bay would lose his place at Newport University and the money he had paid for his course.

He faces being deported back to Jordan on his release.

ONE of Scotland’s most prominent Muslim community leaders is facing jail after being found guilty of sexually abusing girls.

Farooq Hussain’s reputation lay in tatters last night, after a jury found him guilty of a catalogue of abuse over five years.

The 56-year-old businessman, who owned a string of restaurants and held high-profile charity events, was found guilty of three charges after a week-long trial at Perth Sheriff Court.

Outside court, the mother of one victim said: “This has been absolutely horrific for my daughter. I don’t even think he is human. He showed no emotion in court.
“He tried to tarnish my daughter’s name. Maybe now she can stop having nightmares about him. The main thing for us was that the girls got justice and they have. I just hope that they can move on now with the right help.”

Hussain, of Perth, sexually abused a 15-year-old girl at the Al Farooq restaurant he owned in Perth city centre in November, 2002.

In July last year, he indecently assaulted a 14-year-old girl at an address in Perth, and then attacked her again in Perth in August.

Sentence was deferred for reports and Hussain’s details were added to the sex offenders’ register.
